Description:
This work is built around a ‘mise en abyme’ where two female presences seem to echo each other. On the left, a woman poses facing forward, draped in red, asserting a serene confidence through her direct gaze and structured posture. In contrast, the silhouette on the right turns away from us, revealing a sense of insecurity and vulnerability, highlighted by the softness of fluid white drapery.
The scene’s ambiguity lies in the connection between these two women: is this an unfaithful reflection revealing a hidden side, or a silent encounter between two distinct individuals? The space, partitioned by geometric planes and frames, reinforces this spatial uncertainty. The intense blue background unifies the composition while making the skin tones vibrate.
The brushwork, precise on the bodies, nevertheless retains a degree of freedom in the backgrounds, creating a balance between figuration and abstraction.
